Welcome..

Thanks for visiting. I’ve set up this blog because the NHS is crumbling.. if not already crumbled1. But this isn’t just another blog moaning. I want to educate and inform. It appears the Great British public is unaware of the exuberant costs of healthcare2, particularly in privatised systems like those in the USA. I hypothesize increasing awareness of healthcare costs may improve both health literacy and appropriate use of the NHS. After all.. health is not really a hot topic in this country.

For context, I am a Resident Doctor (previously called Junior Doctor) working in the NHS. I look after the ill and treat them to the best of my ability. However, the system does not allow for exemplary healthcare, because it is simply overwhelmed. Soon, if nothing changes, private healthcare companies will swoop in and begin to compete for work against the NHS (this is already happening to a certain degree3) and thus paying for healthcare becomes the norm in the UK. This is okay if you have the spare change.. not so if your earnings are modest or face poverty. These are the people who will suffer the most and will have gravest consequences.

Using this blog I hope to give an unfiltered and honest opinion of these issues and educate along the way. The more who are aware of the potential consequences, the more who can fight the impending privatisation of the health service.
